FAQs

Best products for blocking stains and odours

For effectively blocking stains and odours, shellac-based primers are highly recommended. Prior to painting, we advise using SPO Shellac Primer Sealer to prime any stubborn stains. this primer effectively blocks both stains and odours.

Can you paint over mould and mildew?

Although you can paint over mould stains with an appropriate primer, like SPO Anti-Damp Paint, we recommend starting with Fluxaf Mould and Mildew Stain Remover before applying SPO Anti-Damp or SPO Anti-Condensation Paint to block any remaining mould and prevent its recurrence.

How to paint over water damage stains

Start by thoroughly cleaning the affected area to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. Allow the surface to dry completely. Apply a stain-blocking primer to the water-damaged stains. Choose a primer specifically designed to block water stains, such as a SPO Shellac Primer sealer or a high-quality stain-blocking primer like SPO General Purpose Stain Block Primer. You can then paint over the primer following the product recommended overcoat times.

Please note: You must ensure that any underlying issues, such as leaks or moisture problems, are addressed and fixed prior to using this recommended system.

How to paint over rust

Begin by removing loose rust and old paint using a wire brush, scraper, and/or sandpaper. Clean the surface thoroughly with Fluxaf Power Clean. Next, apply Teamac Rust Converter to stabilise any remaining rust and prevent its reformation and spread. After following the recommended overcoat times, proceed to apply Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer followed by Teamac Metalcote. This process will ensure a stable and durable finish on the surface.

Which type of paint is best for high-moisture areas like kitchens and bathrooms?

SPO Anti-Condensation Paint is an excellent option for areas with high moisture levels, such as kitchens and bathroom ceilings. This amazing paint effectively reduces and prevents condensation formation on the surface where it is applied. It achieves this by insulating the surface, which minimises the temperature difference between the interior surface and the surrounding air. This consistent surface temperature significantly decreases the chances of condensation occurring.

Can you paint wall tiles?

Yes, you can paint wall tiles. First, clean the tiles thoroughly with Fluaxf Power Clean. Next, sand the tiles to create a good surface for the paint to adhere to. Prime the tiles with SPO Tile and Melamine Primer, and then apply your chosen decorative topcoat.
